100 homemade firearms: Lane County man caught with arsenal of guns and drugs

A Springfield man, accused of illegally possessing and manufacturing over 100 semi-automatic firearms and silencers, was sentenced to six years in prison on Tuesday by a U.S. District Court judge in Eugene.

The Lane County Sheriff’s office started receiving tips in 2022 from “concerned citizens” that 40-year-old Andrew Rogers frequently purchased firearm parts, according to court documents.

Investigators learned that in June 2022, Rogers spent thousands of dollars on more than 120 firearm parts and accessories. When conducting a search of his resident on June 30, investigators found 62 complete semi-automatic firearms, 45 silencers, several incomplete firearms, several hundred rounds of ammunition and hundreds of firearm components, including magazines, triggers and optic systems.

In addition to the firearm parts, Rogers was also in possession of psilocybin, methamphetamine, a drill press, firearm manufacturing tools and a 3D printer with a partially printed part for an AR15 rifle.

“Roger’s wife estimated there were more than 100 firearms in the residence and that Rogers had manufactured most, if not all, of the firearms in his possession,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The same morning, officers arrested Rogers after conducting a traffic stop on his vehicle. During the stop, officers searched his backpack and found methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, a knife, several hundred dollars of cash and a semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine.

On July 1, 2022, investigators discovered even more evidence. A search warrant was obtained by officers for Rogers’ storage unit in Springfield where they found 26 pistols, five rifles, four suppressors, and an assortment of firearm parts.

A search of database systems with the Federal Licensing System and National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record returned no results for Rogers, which means he was not licensed to manufacture, import or sell firearms. It is unclear from court documents whether Rogers imported or sold any of the weapons he was manufacturing.

Subsequently, Rogers was charged with criminal complaint with possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and unlawful possession of unregistered silencers.

On Aug. 13, 2024, Rogers pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a silencer and unlawful manufacture of a silencer.

He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Michael McShane to six years in prison and three years of supervised release.
