In Colombia river guardians fight to protect river polluted by illegal gold mining

Colombia’s Atrato River is deemed so important that in 2026 a Colombian court said it has the same rights as a human being. Locals have been taking on the roles of river guardians, trying to work with government institutions to protect the river. (AP video shot by: Marko Alvarez).
