Stephen Budd Named CEO of Sunwin Global Industry

Industry veteran Stephen Budd has a new gig: chief executive officer of North America for Sunwin Global Industry Inc., a home and apparel manufacturer.

Budd has more than three decades of experience in retail and wholesale and served most recently as chief commercial officer of Beximco Textiles. Before that, he was president of Sunrise Brands, Future Source, a division of JCPenney, G-III Apparel, Elie Tahari and BCBG Max Azria Group. He began his career with Robinsons Department Store in Los Angeles.

Shadow Wang, chairman of Sunwin, one of the top 100 exporters in home products, cited Budd’s “customer-centric vision and purpose-led leadership approach,” which he said “align perfectly with the Sunwin culture.” He added that as Sunwin works to expand its business by offering a broad and differentiated selection of home products and apparel in a wide range of price points, Budd will be charged with expanding its presence in the North American market.

Budd said he sees “a long runway for growth” at Sunwin. He said the company has sales of around $400 million now and the goal is to reach $1 billion over the next few years.

He singled out what he sees as the company’s three core strengths: technology, innovation and fashion design, and pointed to the company’s global organizational structure as key to its ability to produce a wide range of product at compelling prices.

“I look forward to working with Shadow and the Sunwin Global team to build on the company’s impressive foundation and unlock its tremendous potential in the home and apparel industry,” he said.

Sunwin is based in New York and also has design teams in Shanghai and London. It manufactures products in 22 categories ranging from bedding and blankets to loungewear, activewear, hats and gloves. It also has pet and kids’ divisions. In the U.S., it works with Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillard’s, Target, Bloomingdale’s, Vera Bradley and other retailers.
