Charli XCX is using her platform to encourage donations to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.
As the Palisades fire and the Eaton fire continue to burn — having spread across more than 37,000 acres and 10,000 structures, and claimed the lives of at least 16 people — fashion and beauty brands have been rallying to donate to those affected. Now, Charli XCX is calling on more to join the wildfire relief efforts, and gift items to victims instead of sending clothing to her.
“As a person in the public eye I am often being sent clothes and other things by brands wanting to gift me something,” the music artist wrote in a note posted to Instagram Stories. “This is very kind and sweet but I want to encourage brands to give to people who really truly need it.”
“Any brands reading this please donate to those who have been tragically affected by these horrific L.A. fires,” she added.
Charli XCX also shared items people can bring and send to an ongoing donation drive for families who lost their homes in Los Angeles due to the fires, which is being organized by stylist Lana Jay Lackey. “I’ll be donating things here for families in need,” Charli XCX wrote atop a list of clothing items for babies, children, and adults. “Any brands/friends reading do what you can.”
Some fashion brands have been hosting donation drives in Los Angeles for those affected by the ongoing fires, including L.A.-based Citizens of Humanity which is holding a clothing donation center at its downtown showroom until January 17. Hurley, based in Costa Mesa, is also coordinating a drive that includes clothing as well as food and essential supplies in collaboration with local government and charitable organizations.
Many brands are also responding to the devastating fires by gifting items directly to those affected. APL is donating shoes to fire victims, Ace Rivington is offering clothing to anyone who lost their home in the fires, Credo Beauty is gifting skincare packages assembled for in-store pickup, and Collina Strada has donated clothing as well, to name a few.
Meanwhile many brands are donating directly to fundraising efforts, such as Los Angeles-based brand Rails which sent $50,000 to the Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Todd Snyder which donated $100,000 to Good360’s relief efforts, Target which donated $1 million in partnership with organizations including the California Fire Foundation and League of California Community Foundation, and Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation which cumulatively pledged $2.5 million in disaster relief support for Southern California communities
