Former Asbury High employee sentenced for sex act with student


MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A former Asbury High employee has been sentenced after engaging in a sex act with a student in 2023.

According to court documents, Leslie Rains of Albertville is sentenced to 60 months, split to serve 6 months in the Marshall County Jail with the rest of her sentence suspended. After she serves that time in the county jail, Rains will be placed on probation for 52 months.

Rains pleaded guilty to engaging in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19 in October.

Rains will also be required to register as a sex offender.

In December of 2023, Rains was charged after school officials and SRO deputies received information about a school employee acting inappropriately with a student.

The engaging in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19 charge is a class B felony in Alabama. Rains was set a property bond of $25,000 and bonded out of the jail just hours after her arrest.

The sheriff’s office said its investigation began on Nov. 30, 2023.
