ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced Dresden Road will be closed Dec. 2-3 from Military Road to East Highland Drive for a water main replacement. Local access will be maintained and detours will be posted.

COLUMBUS − The Ohio of Development recently announced $10.9 million in Community Block Development Grants to 49 communities in 45 counties. The funding will assist communities in completing a variety of infrastructure improvements and public services aimed at spurring economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents. This includes $254,000 to conduct street improvements in Dresden and Frazeysburg that will benefit 425 residents in Dresden and 608 residents in Frazeysburg.

ZANESVILLE − Dr. Olusola Olubowale has joined Genesis Heart and Vascular Group, specializing in cardiology. He completed a cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowship at Marshall University School of Medicine, Huntington, West Virginia. He had an internal medicine residency at the Columbia University/Harlem Hospital Center, New York City, New York. Olubowale earned his doctorate in medicine from Olabisi Onabanjo University/Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, Nigeria, and has a master’s degree in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Olubowale is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He was the Chief Cardiology Fellow and Cardiology Fellow of the Year in 2021 at Marshall University School of Medicine.

IRONTON − The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recently announced $1.9 million in funding for the Southeast Beautification Program going to 15 Ohio counties. This includes $344,784 to a group including Guernsey, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble and Washington counties. The funding is for litter cleanup events, special waste collection programs, educational programs and new equipment for southeast solid waste management districts. It will also help schools develop recycling programs and expand residential waste pick-up.

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center has announced the publication of “The Susan Awards: A Collection of Winning Writing.” The 200-page book collects winning submissions from the Susana Writing Awards, named in honor Susan Mahoney. For the past 20 years, students have earned scholarships and recognition at the annual awards ceremony. The book can be purchased from MVESC and Amazon. Proceeds from sales will support future scholarships.

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Auditor’s Office has announced dog licenses will be on sale from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31. A one-year license is $16, a three-year license is $48 and a permanent license is $160. Kennel licenses are $80. Licenses can be purchased online at doglicenses.us/oh/muskingum, by mail from the auditor’s office or by cash or check only from the auditor’s office at 401 Main St. Licenses can also be bought from satellite vendors for an additional 75 cents per tag. Satellite vendors are the Animal Shelter Society, Duncan Falls Library, Hanby Farms, Maysville Do-It Center, The Mill in Dresden, Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center, John McIntire Library, Roseville Library, Shriver’s Pharmacy, Sunrise Do-It Center, Orme West and the Frazeysburg Town Hall.

ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System’s Hospice Care program recently received a five-star quality rating from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services. It’s the highest rating possible. Ratings are determined by data from the Hospice Item Set (HIS), Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Hospice Survey data and administrative data from Medicare claims.

ZANESVILLE − South Zanesville Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, in council chambers. The personnel committee will meet at 6 p.m.
