Mace is to refurbish a building in the City of London with the aim of minimising its embodied carbon through the recycling and repurposing of materials and the removal of fossil fuels.
The original 145,000 sq ft office at 10 Gresham Street was designed by Foster and Partners. The architect for the refurbishment is Gensler.
Mace said the redevelopment is committed to the sustainable sourcing of timber products, accountability for other construction materials, and reducing construction waste.
The scheme also includes passive and low-energy design measures such as low-energy LED lighting and high-performance glazing.
The project aims to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum ratings.
Construction is due to start before the end of the year and completion is expected at the beginning of 2025.
