Mindy Kaling brought back a major 2010s trend for her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The actress, writer and producer was introduced by her former costar BJ Novak, who she met while filming “The Office.”
Kaling selected a black silk dress from The New Arrivals. Featuring a peplum hemline, it came from the Turkish label’s fall 2024 collection. The flared silhouette has been revived in the 2020s, with stars like Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone modeling peplum gowns at the Academy Awards in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

Kaling accessorized with diamond-encrusted jewelry, completing her look with crystallized ankle-strap pumps. The “Sex Lives of College Girls” creator currently works with stylist Erin Walsh, who also counts stars like Selena Gomez and Anne Hathaway as clients.
“We’d always knew you’d be famous, but we had no idea how beautifully you’d handle the job,” said Novak, who is also the godfather of Kaling’s three children. “You’d be on the walk of talent if they had one, you’d be on the walk friendship, you’d be on the walk of compassionate parenthood.”
On social media, Kaling was congratulated by her “A Wrinkle in Time” costar Reese Witherspoon, as well as actress Brenda Song, who alongside husband Macaulay Culkin, was in attendance at the ceremony.

“Congrats on your star, Min Diesel,” Witherspoon wrote on her Instagram story. “Beyond well deserved. I’m so proud of you!”
In her speech, Kaling called Novak “an important and integral part of [her] family” and thanked those who have supported her work through the years.
“I am so grateful to the audiences who got me here, who believed in me enough to think that I actually was a star,” she said.
