At the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 5, 2025, stars hit the red carpet in their fineries — dressed in custom designer gowns and dripping in jewels. While those fashions may not be at your fingertips, the celebrities’ makeup looks certainly are. One of the leading Golden Globes beauty trends was all about accentuating the eyes by way of shimmery shadows, a flattering choice seen across stars of all ages and skin tones.

Shimmery eyeshadows creates a subtle luminesce that swath the lids in light-reflective pigments, ideal for camera flashes to bounce off of for an eye-opening effect. Better yet, this eyeshadow finish comes in nearly every shade under the sun, allowing plenty of room for hand-selecting a shade that suits your skin tone. For the 2025 Golden Globes, we saw stars opt for peachy-pink shimmery shadows, true gold tones, and nearly-translucent options that simply give the skin some sheen.

Stars like Quinta Brunson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Anna Sawai favored the latter, selecting eyeshadow shades that slightly enhanced their natural skin tones without reading overly flashy or painted-on. Rather, just a hint of color added depth to Brunson’s minimalist glam, while Sawai’s lids were veiled with what looks to be a dusting of finely-milled, pearlescent glitter. Taylor-Joy’s peachy shadow melded with her cool, fair skin and light pink lipstick.

Similarly, we saw Kristen Bell, Elle Fanning, and Kate Hudson reach for shimmery pigments in varying shades of pink, peach, and rose gold. Both Bell and Fanning teamed their shadow looks with defined eyeliner and soft berry lips; Bell’s eye look came courtesy of Chanel’s Les Beiges Eyeshadow Palette, while Fanning wore an $8 eyeshadow from L’Oréal.

We also saw celebs go for the gold with true metallic eyeshadows. Eiza Gonzalez’s golden eye look featured a subtle cat eye flick, adding a glamorous touch to her defined cheek bones and nude lip. Leighton Meester’s lids were covered in silvery flecks of shimmer that popped against the bronze eyeliner used on her waterline.

Other celebs made waves not just with the iridescent finish of eyeshadow, but with its placement, too. Take Emma D’Arcy’s edgy application of the trend, wearing a bronze shade all over her eyelids and smudged beneath the lower lid. Here, minimal eyeliner and mascara let the shadow’s color do all the talking.

Others, like Alexandra Daddario and Selena Gomez, chose more classic placement, with Daddario wearing a pop of icy shadow on her inner corners and Gomez sporting a touch of sheen just below her brow bone.
