Water in a northern California swimming pool lurched from side to side on Thursday, December 5, as a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the region, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake’s center was estimated to be in the Pacific Ocean, 45 miles southwest of Eureka, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.
Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was in effect for the region, with “damaging waves and powerful currents” possible, according to the NWS. By Thursday afternoon, the warning was no longer in effect.
