While she was still riding high from her Victoria’s Secret fashion show performance, on television it seemed Tyla was two places at once. The singer also appeared at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, which was filmed on Oct. 8 but aired a week later on Tuesday. For the event, the “Water” performer went vintage, selecting a John Galliano design from the early 2000s.
Tyla wore a black sequined minidress, designed as a sequined jersey with “Galliano” in green block letters prominently across the chest and a “1” as the jersey number on the stomach. Originally, the Galliano brand also released the jersey in red.
Tyla wore the piece off-the-shoulder, pairing it with a necklace, earrings and bracelet from the Tiffany & Co. HardWear line, known for its 1962-inspired link motif design. She completed the look with knee-high slouchy snap boots from Y-project. Styled by Lee Trigg, her glam featured a glossy, lined lip and braids pulled back into a bun.
At the BET Hip Hop Awards, Tyla joined Teyana Taylor to present the “I Am Hip Hop” award to Travis Scott. Taylor’s look was 2000s-inspired, featuring baggy five-pocket jeans from Second Self, cut, frayed and with a string-tie crotch. She paired them with a similarly distressed, structured jacket and Rick Owens Kiss boots.
Tyla is certainly not new to vintage and otherwise archival pieces. She wore a vintage Versace gown featuring cutouts to the BET Awards last June. That black number came from the brand’s fall 2004 collection and was styled by Katie Qian.
Cutouts or short silhouettes are a go-to for the Grammy-winning songstress. On the pink carpet for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, she wore a pink crystal-embellished Salih Balta gown featuring massive cutouts throughout the garment. For an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” earlier this year she opted for a leopard print minidress.
